Oddities

I went thrift store shopping the other day and found some amazing deals! This cute vase was only $3.

This plate was only 2 bucks! It's got a white face with an illustration on it and blue border. The rim is gold. So classy...

The plate says First Baptist Church, Wheeling, W. Va.

Isn't the picture awesome?!

I also got this set of two Pier 1 Imports wall frames. They were brand new, still packaged for only $15!

Inspired Design

I went back to Bigger Antiques in Lake Alfred, Florida the other day. There are so many great finds over there, but the prices are ridiculous!

This iron outdoor chair was a part of a set (two chairs and a bench) and I just thought it was so cute!

You may recognize this...I've posted it on the blog before. I still want it!!

This was an old scale used in a grocer's store.

I loved this bike. :)

This old soda water bottles were great. I especially loved the one with the little girl on it.

This American flag on tin was by far my favorite find in the store. But it was $450. Unfortunately, I'm not willing to spend that much on wall art. Oh well.

If you're ever near Lake Alfred and want to visit Bigger Antiques (I reccomend it!) here's a map.

Inspired Design

I went thrift store and secondhand shopping with a friend yesterday and found a couple of great items, all on the cheap. The first item was a little glass bottle with a glass topper for 99cent. The bottle has a label on it that says: Prepared Cotton, Eastern Laos, Siam. Not sure what the bottle was originally used for (my guess is, it held cotton), but I like it.

The second item I bought was this painting. It's a canvas painting with a red background and a giant blue flower/sunburst design with hints of purples and greens. The tag said $6, but when I went to pay for the painting, it rang up as $5. As you can see, I put it on a high shelf above my closet with some other large items that I use to decorate with.

You may recognize this chalkboard from a previous post; it was my d.i.y. (do it yourself) project. I needed a large filler for the same over-the-closet shelf, and choose to use this. A friend and I drew an elephant on it for design. As you can see, we're not artists....

Once I finished setting everything up, this was the end result. Some of the items are kind of boring (i.e. collectible spoon case) but I can't get rid of them at the time and I definitely don't intend on putting them out in a easier to view location.

Overall, yesterday's shopping trip was quite successful!

I'm sooo excited!!! I stopped by Goodwill with a friend today and look what I found: an awesome bar-stool! And at only six bucks, it was quite a bargin. :)

Oddities

Ever fall in love with something you thought you would hate? I was shopping at a local thrift store the other day when I stumbled across this little oddity.

I picked it up, not really sure what it was (as it was taped shut), looked at it, walked away, came back and looked at it some more, and finally decided to investigate. After I pulled it apart I realized that it's a set of coasters!

My first thought was to poke fun at it and comment on the fact that it belonged in some outdated rental condo on the beach, but I slowly began to like it....and then I fell in love with it.

In conclusion: I love my new woven coaster set. I'm still not sure why, but I am glad I gave this unique little find a second chance.
